Today (9/25), SGCMS celebrated Dolly Parton Day! To honor Dolly's legacy, and in coordination with Gibson County Kind, we asked each student in our building to think about ways they could be "Kind Like Dolly." They then wrote an act of kindness on a butterfly, which were pinned together by some amazing student volunteers, to create a Kindness "Coat of Many Colors."

Tonight's scheduled football game, which was originally scheduled against Alamo, was cancelled. Instead, there will be a 7th and 8th grade JV practice scrimmage.
This week in Miss. DeGroff's social studies class students are learning about the geography of ancient Egypt. Students started the week learning the geography and how it impacted agricultural growth. They then worked in groups to debate why their geographical feature was the most difficult to invade.

Thank you to Ms. Mariah McCallister for speaking to 5th grade students about careers in Public Service and Safety. She is the mother of Emma Harden and shared about her careers in the Airforce, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, and as a Criminal Defense Attorney.

Students in Mrs. Malone’s Career Exploration class participated in a field trip to explore careers in the Public Service and Safety career cluster. These 8th grade students were invited to observe live court proceedings in Judge Bradley Owens’ Gibson County General Sessions Courtroom. Judge Owens speaks to students about “Choices and Consequences” and takes time to explain proceedings and answer questions at the end.

8th grade students in Career Exploration are busy preparing for “Mock Interviews.” Students have been creating their initial resumes, learning about proper handshakes, how to answer interview questions, eye contact, and body language. At the end of the quarter, each 8th grade student will complete an interview to help prepare them for their futures.
