
7th grade students in Career Exploration at SGCMS worked together to learn how to be effective leaders using “collaboration” and “communication” skills. Students were challenged to work in groups to raise a “helium stick” as a team and to build the tallest “spaghetti” structure using only tape, string, and spaghetti noodles.




8th grade students learned about careers in STEM with TDOT (Tennessee Department of Transportation) on Friday.
Branden Garcia, P.E., TDOT Region 4 Utilities, Utility Manager, Burton Hatch, TDOT Region 4 Operations, Operations District Supervisor, Eric Spencer, TDOT Region 4 Materials and Test, Transportation Project Specialist, Kara Shears, TDOT Region 4 Materials and Test, Transportation Project Specialist, Corbin Schoenberg, Engineering Specialist 2, and Tyler Flannagan, Engineering Specialist 2 spoke to students about careers, educational paths, different TDOT projects, and students’ futures.

The Booster Club is requesting parent volunteers to chaperone the Winter dance this Saturday? Volunteer forms were sent home with students on 11/29 or can be found on the Booster Club Facebook page.

Chaperone forms went home with students today! Please fill out and return to school if you would like to chaperone at one of the dances!

Seems to be some misinformation so wanted to clear up that the Winter Dance next Saturday is not a formal.

8th grade students are busy preparing for “mock interviews” in Career Advising/Planning. Students are interviewing one another to prepare for their individual interviews that will take place next week with industry partners and district office partners.





This year's Christmas Shop will be 12-5 to 12-8 during activity times.


SGCMS Booster Club meeting Tuesday night at 6:00 PM in the library. Will be discussing the Winter Dance.

On Tuesday, 6th and 7th grade students in Career Exploration class had Mr. Justin Smith from Jackson Fire Department to speak to them about his career and fire safety. Mr. Smith is a Captain and he is also a certified extrication specialist; he is the parent of two of our 7th grade students, Bailey and Blake Smith.







Seventh graders in Mrs. Malone’s Career Exploration class have been researching important entrepreneurs. They will be presenting their findings to their peers.



Menu Change. Our traditional Thanksgiving lunch for students has been moved up to Wednesday of this week, rather than Thursday.

7th and 8th grade band parents, please don't forget that the band has rehearsal Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

SGCMS, please remember to wear red, white, and blue tomorrow as we honor our veterans for Veterans Day.

8th grade students in Career Advising & Planning were exposed to careers in the Human Resources career path this past Friday. Maia Trammell, from Owens Corning, spoke to students about the various facets of HR responsibility and different career options. She also talked with students about the importance of interviewing, resumes, and internships.





Students grades 5-8 who are interesting to trying out for the golf team need to sign up by this Friday in the main office. Details concerning the tryout date(s) will be released in the near future.

We have several 6th grade students who have not handed in their permission slips for the CTE tour at SGCHS tomorrow. If your child failed to hand this in, you can print off an additional copy using this image.


The 7th and 8th grade will have after school practice from 3-5 on the following dates: November 7th, 14th, 16th, and 27th.
